Queen Gertrude

the killing thereof

“ . . . a woman suffocated”

Written by Edinburgh Fringe award-winning playwright Frank Bramwell

At long last Queen Gertrude is able to speak,

and so her true story can be brought to life.

This is the story of the tragic events that took place in Elsinore, all those years ago, and what happened afterwards.

A story of intrigue and heart-rending passion, told purely from a female perspective

at the very heart of Shakespeare’s great tragedy.

And why her voice has been suffocated all this time.

The silence now broken,

this then is Queen Gertrude’s

very own personal story.

Finally.

A unique opportunity to experience the play Hamlet, but this time told by the voice of Queen Gertrude.

This new and exciting one-woman play dispenses with the other characters in the original play

and relives its main themes using Shakespeare’s words and new words.

Its challenging and bold take is to ask;

could Queen Gertrude tell us what happened in the play Hamlet if she was given a voice?

This fascinating opportunity takes us through the mind of Queen Gertrude

from the beginning of the Shakespeare play to her death,

allowing us to re-examine the original play’s themes

and insights from a completely different angle.

This will be playwright Frank Bramwell’s sixth sequel to Shakespeare’s plays.

The previous five (based on Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, The Tempest, Hamlet, and King Lear)

have all delighted audiences with the boldness of their approach and the dexterity of touch.

Romeo & Juliet for All Time won an award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a play “that stood head and shoulders above other plays reviewed”.
